In our final interview with the team, we meet Partner and Head of Housing Faye Newbery.

What does your job involve? My role includes helping to manage the day to day running of the firm alongside the other equity partners, leading the Housing Team, and seeing my own clients.
What is the most rewarding part of your job? Assisting my clients to achieve the outcome they’ve asked me to help them with, which I know is important to them and will make a difference.
What is the biggest misconception people have about your job? Glamourous events and lazy lunches! The reality is most lunches are taken at my desk.
What has been the highlight of your career so far at Cartridges Law? Personally, for me, it’s the outcomes I achieve for my clients, who are often the most vulnerable within society, and it’s realising that your work does make a difference. Becoming a Partner and being given the opportunity to be a part of the future of the firm is also a moment within my career I am proud of.
What qualities or attributes do you think you need to work in housing law? It does help to be patient, pragmatic and adaptable because not one day is the same!
What is your top legal tip for landlords? Do things right from the beginning – you can lose time and money if you haven’t. The laws around private renting are changing, and your understanding of what the law is may not be up to date.
There are significant changes coming for landlords and tenants, what do you think the most significant change will be for a landlord? The financial cost to landlords if they don’t get it right.
