Our latest cARTridges artist is a Devon-based former NHS doctor who couldn’t ignore her desire to paint!
Hannah Oram works mostly in acrylic, and is inspired by the world around her, from landscapes and seascapes to animals, flowers and still life. But before she took up painting full time, she worked in the NHS for nearly two decades.
I was previously an NHS doctor for 17 years but knew that I could only park the desire to paint for so long. I felt I needed a change in direction and so I jumped right in the deep end and went for it. Now I am an artist and have been for nearly 4 years and I love it!
Hannah says she loves to capture the fun and joy of a scene. Her vibrant and colourful artwork often celebrates the local area, with pieces featuring recognisable scenes around Exeter, Topsham, Lympstone, Budleigh and beyond.
“I play as I create, and love to make bold marks or splats of paint, enjoying the serendipitous way it can guide the final piece.”
Hannah has also carried over her passion for helping others from her previous career, and runs workshops for both adults and children.
“I thoroughly enjoy teaching workshops, helping to support and nurture everyone in their artistic journey – and making sure they are having lots of fun on the way! I firmly believe we are all artists, each with our own unique style.”
