What’s your role in the Estate Planning team, and what does a typical day look like for you?
I am the team Administrator and a typical day will be scanning post onto our system, emailing our department with updates, typing dictations from the team, preparing letters to send out and meeting clients to make appointments.
How did you get into this area of law?
I first started as an Office Junior for a different firm at age 16 and, as they say, the rest is history.
If you weren’t working in law, what would you be doing?
If I hadn’t worked in law I would have either liked to have been a nurse or something working with animals.
Can you share a moment when you felt your work made a real difference to a client or family?
There have been a few occasions when I have met clients to discuss probate and explained the process as easily as possible and they have said the advice given was very helpful.
How do you support families during the probate process?
I try to be as caring and honest as possible with families, and listen if they want to open up to me.
What’s one misconception people often have about wills or probate?
Clients often say its “only a simple will” but until you sit down with the client and discuss assets etc, it may not be as simple as it seems. With probate, clients often don’t realise how long a probate matter can take. We spend the time explaining the entire process, from obtaining a Grant of Probate through to the distribution of an estate.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy typing dictations. It is a great way of getting to know all about the client and follow along with where we are in the process. It enables me to help clients when they contact us for advice or to find out what their next steps are.
What’s the most rewarding part of your work in Estate Planning?
I really enjoy working with my colleagues, both in my team and from other departments. It is a friendly firm with great people.
