As the solicitors profession becomes increasingly diverse, pressure is growing for greater equality in the workplace, according to The Law Society’s Annual Statistics report for 2017, which revealed there are now more women than men practising as solicitors.

Cartridges Law is still unusual in having an all-women partnership team, so it’s great to see a shift within the legal profession towards greater equality in the recognition of talent. Although the number of solicitors holding practicing certificates is split roughly equally between men and women, the senior positions within law firms are still dominated by the older white, male demographic.

In light of the release of this Annual Statistics report, could this also be set to change? Watch this space for news of The First 100 Years project which is charting the journey of women in law since 1919. In 2019 the project will mark the centenary of the Sex Disqualification (Removal) Act 1919 which paved the way for women to become lawyers for the first time.
