What’s your role within the residential conveyancing team, and what does a typical day look like for you?
I work across both residential and commercial property matters, giving my role a lot of variety. Within the residential conveyancing team, I handle and assist with a mix of transactions including freehold and leasehold sales and purchases, transfers of equity and remortgages. On the commercial side, I often assist with landlord and tenant matters, drafting and negotiating leases.
A typical day usually involves managing an active caseload by reviewing title documents, drafting contracts and transfer deeds, dealing with enquiries and liaising with clients, solicitors, agents, and lenders. I’ll usually progress several files at different stages, whether that’s issuing contract packs, reporting to clients, or arranging completion.
How long have you been with the firm, and what first attracted you to join?
I joined Cartridges Law in January 2025. What first attracted me was the balance between high-quality work and a people-focused culture. The firm has a strong local reputation for being approachable and rooted in the community it serves. I was also drawn to the opportunity to work across both residential and commercial property matters within a close-knit team, while still having the ability to manage my own files and build client relationships.
What do you enjoy most about working in residential conveyancing?
What I enjoy most about residential conveyancing is working with clients at key moments in their lives. Whether it’s assisting them with the purchase of their first home, separating assets, or moving for work or family, there is real satisfaction in helping people through the process of residential conveyancing.
What’s one thing people might not realise about your job?
One thing people don’t realise is how much coordination and problem-solving goes on behind the scenes. Conveyancing may seem like a simple paperwork exercise. However, we are juggling lenders, agents, solicitors and clients, who all have different expectations and deadlines.
As a trainee solicitor, I’m already managing my own files and making decisions every day, so there’s a lot more responsibility involved than people might assume.
What’s been a memorable moment or proud achievement during your time here?
A memorable moment for me was being trusted early on to run a matter from start to finish. Even as a trainee, I felt that my judgment was valued, and seeing a matter through from start to finish was extremely rewarding.
If you weren’t working in conveyancing, what career path might you have taken?
If I weren’t working in conveyancing, I think I would have gone into aviation. I’ve always been fascinated by planes and the logistics behind air travel, not just flying itself, but the whole operation that keeps things moving. So, I imagine I would have ended up in something like aviation operations.
What’s something new you’ve learned recently—professionally or personally?
Personally, I’ve learned the importance of slowing down and enjoying small moments even if life is busy. Having young children has made me realise how fast time moves, so I am trying to be more present rather than constantly thinking about the next task.
How do you unwind after a busy day at work?
With two young children, “unwinding” is usually more of a phased process than a peaceful event. Once bedtime negotiations are complete and the house is quiet, I usually relax with a good series on TV, ideally with snacks.
What’s your go-to productivity tip or tool?
My go-to productivity tool is Outlook but specifically, colour-coded flags and categories. My inbox is basically my live task list, so if something needs to be actioned, it gets flagged with a deadline. It keeps everything visible and stops smaller tasks slipping through the cracks.
What motivates you at work?
I’d say I’m mainly fuelled by coffee and the urge to bring order to chaos. Conveyancing can be unpredictable, one minute everything is calm, the next minute there is a missing signature, a lender who has gone silent, or a completion to organise. I get a real buzz from taking all that noise and turning it into a clear plan.
What’s your favourite way to start the workday?
Let’s just say my mornings aren’t exactly peaceful. So, my day officially begins when I sit down at my desk with a proper cup of coffee and a few minutes of calm. After the toddler chaos, that first bit of structure and focus is oddly refreshing. Once I’ve checked my emails and made a quick to-do list, I feel ready to go.
