Our second exhibition of the year is an artist that brings story telling to textiles.
Naomi Grace Willmott is a textile artist, using various techniques to create her work. She has grown to love weaving, printmaking, and surface design, with a practice grounded in material experimentation and an interest in texture, colour, and place.
“I love the process of making – my work often begins with drawing and develops through testing and sampling, combining technical knowledge with a tactile, hands-on approach. I explore the relationship between varied materials, using techniques such as heat transfer, screen printing, and woven construction.”
This way of thinking and working has led to a mixed media approach and means that every piece is unique.
“A lot of my work is inspired by buildings and architecture. With a keen sense of colour, I have developed a unique style that blends traditional techniques with modern digital technology such as a TC2 Loom.”
Naomi is interested in how craft and hands-on learning can support wellbeing. She hopes to contribute to more open, inclusive spaces within the art world, exploring how textile craft can be used to form communities and introduce people to a tactile way of creativity.
“I have seen my work evolve over the years and have grown to enjoy the process of creating new things and pieces of art.”
The work on display in our cARTridges Gallery includes a varied collection. Her work aims to excite and intrigue a viewer.
